TFN declaration via Reckon
Hi , I was looking up how to send a TFN declaration for a new employee thru Reckon Accounts hosted and found the information on the internet. In reading this it says there is some info that is mandatory - though under Employment Type it also has in brackets (Other and Casual Part Time are not supported), so does this mean if setting up a new employee that is classed as casual or part time that you cannot send the TFN via Reckon. This info did not make sense to me as why would the classification of the persons employment affect this way to send their TFN to the ATO.
Your help would be greatly appreciated,
Thanks Lynne

Yes that was how I read it too, which if correct doesn’t make sense

Not sure where you found that info 🤔
As far as I’m aware the employment basis is irrelevant to the process for flow-through of the TFN Dec via STP. Obviously you would want to ensure you have setup the employee accordingly - including the correct tax label (eg TFT etc) & employment status, just as the employee would tick the correct boxes on the previous paper version - but I’ve submitted TFN Decs for casuals & PT-ers this way without any issue.

Thanks for your help,
I found the info on this of how to do it in the Reckon Help Support Centre.
It is definitely unusual as like Kris said it does not work on all types of employment. This really does not make sense so I am not sure how Shaz has done this previously with no issues.
Thanks again Lynne

Interesting … Have not seen that error before but will certainly look into it.
@Rav what’s the go with this? Is this an RAH-specific issue?

Have just read the info on the Reckon Help site for this & can see it does indeed say Casual & PT are not supported (despite employment type being a required field!)
I can only surmise that I must have only ever lodged FT-ers then which is why I’ve not encountered this issue myself 😳
@Rav Are you able to shed any light on why it is that Casual & PT employment types are “not supported” for TFN Dec submission via GovConnect then? 🤔🤔🤔🤔

This sounds wrong to me. I think the requirements for SBR enabled software would not allow for such a restriction. I'm more inclined to think the help files are wrong.

Did you see my screenshot above, it can be reproduced easily?

Kris the OP is plain wrong. The STP software must allow for PT and casual staff to be notified.

Definitely agree…………

Why do people set these hares running? Its infuriating.

Why do people not read all the comments & note the screenshot evidence? It’s infuriating. 😆

Hi guys,
I'm not quite sure of the specific reason yet as to why the 'Casual Part Time' employment type isn't supported with electronic TFN declarations from within the software itself. I've sent a message over to the Product team to ask though and I'll let you know what I can dig up.

Rav this has got to be fixed. I cannot believe this got out of beta testing.

Hi Guys,
For STP Lodgments, the ATO accepts the following for Employment Status: Full Time, Part Time & Casual (as well as Labour Hire and Pensioner)
In RAH, the employment types existed prior to us reporting them via STP and we have Full Time, Part Time & Casual but we also have two additional types - Casual Part Time and Other.
With the STP Lodgments, we report Casual, Part time and Full time as part of the TFN Dec.
For the extra Casual Part Time type that exists in RAH, there was no way for us to determine whether these employees could be lodged (across the board) to the ATO as Casual or Part Time, so the above message was implemented.
As long as you choose Casual, Part Time or Fulltime, the TFN Dec can be lodged. If you choose Casual Part Time or Other the above message will appear
The Casual Part Time employment type has existed for many years in RAH, but I cant find any reference to that employment type on Fair Work or the ATO websites etc (if anyone finds anything, let me know).
We'll update the documentation to make the above a bit clearer.
Cheers
Neil

But this doesn’t affect the lodgement of STP weekly pays for people listed with these types does it

Aha! Thanks for the clarification @NEILR ☺️
You’re right, there’s really no such thing officially as “Casual PT” - they’re either one or the other!
I only ever use the relevant ones - FT, PT or Casual. I knew I had lodged using these with no issues previously! ☺️

Normal weekly pays aren't affected by the Employment Type.
The Employment type only needs to be reported if you choose to lodge the TFN Dec via STP.

Hi everyone,
Further to this thread can I ask, should we be ticking the box "Lodge TFN Dec via Reckon GovConnect" for all existing employees that would have had paper forms lodged previously, say to capture if they have changed their status from casual to part time?
And if yes do we enter a new Employee Declaration Date in to coincide when they changed?, even if that was a while ago?
Or to put it simply, should this option be ticked on always to capture all employment changes each pay run?
Reckon Accounts Premier 2021 btw
Cheers,
Leshelle

Further to your query, no. The TFN is notified via STP

Hi Leshelle
Keeping the checkbox box ticked beyond the initial STP submission is optional for new employees & the ATO has already been notified on the original (paper) TFN Declaration you would have sent in for existing employees.
NB It's only changes affecting tax rates that would be picked up eg if someone has a new HECS/HELP debt or is wanting to vary their PAYGW - There are specific paper forms for lodging PAYGW Variations but these can now be done via STP using this feature instead 😊
