PAYG PAYMENT SUMMARY

I understand we aren't required to provide these anymore, however I do like to have them available if an employee requests one.

In saying that, I have a few that do not reconcile with my payroll reports for 2023.

I have upgraded to the 2023 RAH version, would this be the reason for the non reconciling?

TIA

STP Phase 2 has introduced additional reporting requirements specifically around the Disaggregation of Gross.

These new reporting requirements weren't part of the old Payment Summary (or EMPDUPE) lodgement process, therefore, if you view the Payment Summary for a financial year that contains one or more STP Phase 2 lodgements, you will find the amounts don't match.

I don’t believe the upgrade would impact on that, can you not identify what the difference is? Maybe to do with allowances not being shown on the payment summary

    we don't pay allowances.

I've identified one difference, the public holidays not included in gross

So you will need to look at the payroll item for that rate and see if it is setup the same as your normal pay item. Gross payments, linked expense account etc

so the payment summaries cannot be used for the 2023 year after the upgrade to STP2 is that correct?

That’s correct - I just tried them and the payments for leave, sick pay and loading, which were all coded as O, were no longer included in the Gross. Which leaves a question for next year I guess as to how will they appear on their MyGov accounts

If you really need them you could open 2022 version and restore the backup that you had to do when you moved to 2023

No I don't need them, it's just something I like to provide if needed. Oh well onwards and upwards, there goes the payment summary as we all know it.

    Ooh … I hadn’t realised this! That’s a shame - They were useful for cross-checking 🤨

(Having said that, I believe Reckon are planning on expanding the default reports available for STP so hopefully that will allow the same 🤞🏻☺️)

Shaz yes, and it is a record if needed. It was part of my reconciliation process also.

Yes I have the same problem. I have multiple people who don't have Mygov accounts so we supply the payment summaries to them. How do they do their tax then if the leave total payments etc aren't showing as income????

@Jocelyn It prefills when they do their tax return - both when they do it themselves or when they have it done via a tax agent ☺️

I also have had people request them in the last week when they couldn't access their mygov account when applying for bank loans..... I think Reckon needs to find a way that we can access prior years tax figures

@Jocelyn Most of the competitor payroll software solutions removed their Payment Summary feature some time ago as these are no longer applicable. We've been fortunate to still have it with Reckon Accounts until now 😬

Banks will usually request payslips & actual tax return ("Notice of Assessment") documentation, not Payment Summaries (That might be what the employee requested from you because they don't know the terminology though!)

Payment summaries have gone the way of the dinosaur and good riddance too. Its been years since we've had to adopt STP so there hasn't been any reason to use summaries. Time to move on.

Its just unnecessary paperwork for both the employee and business.

Their last pay slip of the financial year has the YTD figures on it, which is exactly the same figures as their STP finalisation. Hope that helps

So whats the answer? How do we get the PAYG Summary….or is that not available anymore on Reckon One?

You don’t get the Payment summaries, the employees get the income statements from their MyGov account, which gets there after the STP finalisation is lodged
