I need help loading Reckon Accounts Personal on new laptop
I have been running Reckon Accounts Personal since 2017 but i have bought a new laptop, a Lenovo Intel Evo, and have tried to load Reckon but it always comes up with error "The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configeration is incorrect. Please see the application event log or use the command-line sxstrace.exe tool for more detail"
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling it but wont work.
I have attached error message, any help would be greatly appreciated

Hi @Fred
Your new laptop may not have a Windows related 'runtime' such as the Windows ".NET Framework 3.5" or "Visual C++ Redistributable" installed and likely that older software installer from 2017 needs it.
You can do a google search for step-by-step guides related to that error.
Example: Search for key phrase "Fix Side-by-side configuration is incorrect error in Windows 11/10"
Or you can purchase the most recent available version of the Reckon Accounts Personal range software which may be able to install with less problems on your newer laptop.

I have done, through an it specialist the following,
Issue with Rackon Error “side-by-side configuration is incorrect”
Uninstall MS redistributable system,
Download install window.net 3.5 and 4.8,
Re installed MS redistributable (x86) 12.0.40664 and C++2013, 2015
vcredist_x86.exe
vcredist_x64.exe
Still getting exactly the same error message
I have the latest version loaded, 2022.
What do you suggest is my next step? Please i am desperate to get software working.

I have tried all of the suggested fixes through an IT professional, here is his comments
Issue with Rackon Error “side-by-side configuration is incorrect”

Re installed MS redistributable (x86) 12.0.40664 and C++2013, 2015

I still need the Reckon Data Recovery Team's help. I am running the 2022 version and have paid each year for versions including in 2024.
Help what is the problem?

Data Recovery Team,
My apologies for three similar posts, I did not realize they had been updated. You can see I am desperate. I have been a good customer of Reckon for years, only a personal user buy a paying customer.
I am happy to pay for a data service if that will help the situation, please help

HI @Fred
The issue you are describing is not something that would require the intervention of the Data Recovery Team.
We tend to assist with data files and not usually with installation issues.
You've recently indicated that you are running the Reckon Accounts Personal range 2022 version.
In your initial post, it seems like you are indicating that you are trying to install the older Reckon Accounts Personal 2017 onto your new laptop.
Can you clarify which specific software you are attempting to install?
What other things did the "IT Specialist" you engaged with attempt to resolve the issue?
A web search finds other support articles related to this issue, some of which makes other recommendations related to the 'Windows registry'.
Did they try any of those options?

I am trying to install Reckon Accounts Personal 2022 version on my new laptop. I simply said in my earlier post that i had been using the software and its older versions since 2017 not using the 2017 version. I have been running the 2022 version since February 2022 on my older Toshiba laptop successfully, running Windows 10 system. The new Lenovo Evo laptop is running Windows 11.
We have tried everything suggested on your Reckon Community website and also the Microsoft website when researching the problem. Details are in my previous post. We have Uninstalled and reinstalled at least 5 times in addition to the previous list. What am I missing. The side by side error persists.

Hi @Fred
If you have already tried the suggestions regarding the reinstallation of the libraries such as the Visual C++ redistributable and the Microsoft .NET frameworks, then perhaps looking into the updates to the Windows Registry would be the next thing to try.
A web search finds other support articles related to this issue, some of which makes other recommendations related to the 'Windows registry'.
Has your IT Specialist tried those?
Can you confirm that when the software is being installed that the Setup.exe is being run as Administrator?
Can you try rebooting the laptop into 'Safe Mode' and running the installer with the 'Run As' Administrator
Run Windows in Selective Start Up mode
How to run the an EXE file as a user with Windows Administrator rightsHold down theShiftkey and then right-click the file.ChooseRun as different userfrom the context menu.Enter theUser nameandPasswordfor the user whose credentials should be used to run the program. If the user is on a domain, like this:domain\username.
Or if you are already logged in as a user that has Administrator level rights.Select then right-click the file.ChooseRun as administratorfrom the context menu.

Thank you for your comments, we were today able to launch Reckon Accounts Personal successfully. When I purchased the new laptop, all programs and data were copied across. It failed to launch with the side-by-side error. After trying everything suggested unsuccessfully, we wiped the entire laptop and only loaded Windows 11. We then loaded Reckon and it launched. We then loaded all the other programs one by one checking Reckon each time. It continued to work. We cannot explain why it now works but it must have been a clash with other software possibly Norton Antivirus. Thank you for your concern
