Good afternoon everyone
The client has a very large datafile > 1gb
When I upgraded to the 2024 I prepared by creating a portable backup ahead of time.
When you restore the backup using the 2024 you can skip the backup step
This file upgraded in less than a minute

Creating a portable file instead of a backup would only be a good idea if you are confident and have confirmed that the data file is error-free.
If your data file is very large at least consider adding the following to the process recommended by Zappy.
- Make a COPY of your QBW file and place it in a known alternative location as a secondary copy of the file in the event that restoring a portable file as part of the upgrade process fails
- Generate your typical reports such as the Trial Balance report, Balance Sheet report, Open Invoices report, Unpaid Bills report BEFORE you create the portable, before upgrading the data file.
- After you have restored the portable and the upgrade is successful, generate the same reports as before such as the Trial Balance report, Balance Sheet report, Open Invoices report, Unpaid Bills report and compare those reports to the ones from the previous version prior to the upgrade.
- If there are any discrepancies in the reports, it may indicate a problem that needs to be investigated and resolved in the original earlier version format, before upgrading the file again.
- If there are discrepancies in the reports, consider performing a Rebuild Data and a Verify Data operation on the data file, then review those same reports for any differences.
