I was using quicken software for my personal finances for the last 20 years. Now I am using Reckon V31. I tried to open quicken data file in Reckon but Unable to open. The messages comes as per the attacched screenshot. My understanding was quicken and reckon are the same software but may be different file extensions.

Please help me how can I open my old quicken data file in reckon. What is solution to this probelm.

A data file created in the USA versions of the Quicken software would not be compatible/openable in the Australian versions of the Quicken/Reckon Accounts Personal range software.

Thank you for your reply. Finally I am able to export transactions from USA version as QIF file and able to import into Australian Reckon version. But the only problem is date is incorrect of all transactions such as if the date of transaction is 01/07/2019 it is imported into reckon as 07/01/1919. It shows 100 years back. I don't know how to fix it.

    Hi @sullah

It would be necessary to modify the date format in the QIF files you have exported.

The USA format would usually have the dates as MM/DD/YYYY.

As a test, get one transaction only from the QIF file (copy it).
Paste to a blank new text file.

Change the date format to MM/DD/YYYY

    or

Change the date format to MM/DD/YY

I am not clear what are you saying sir.

I can not open qif file and change the date format. I can import qif file to reckon. I can change manually dates but I have hundred of transactions in the qif file. Changing manually will take hour and hours.

You can use Excel to change the date format for the rows that are designated as dates in the QIF file.

Or alternatively, consider using an AI like ChatGPT and use a simple prompt like one below. (adjust as needed)

PROMPT: I will provide you with text that represents a QIF (Quicken Interchange Format) file. This file has rows that begin with the letter "D" which represents a date. Currently the format is in the USA format that has MM/DD/YYYY. Can you change the format to be in the Australian DD/MM/YYYY format?

Then copy paste the text of the QIF file for it to be processed.

A QIF file is a plain text file that can be opened in any text editor or Excel.

I am using latest excel edition 64 bit. It does not have the add on which can change the date in excel. I have to write new macro in VB but it is beyond my knowledge.

In an earlier message we indicated an alternative process that may be useful that does not make use of Excel.

Consider using an AI like ChatGPT or similar and use a simple prompt like one below.

    Example:

    https://chat.mistral.ai/chat/7c55b9e2-086c-4a00-9f01-cbcf5946c80b

Note that with the date format in your QIF file your screenshot shows

It is single quote character ' in the line representing the date D7/1'13 which is likely being interpreted as 1913, whereas if it was changed to D07/01/2013 it would be interpreted as

    7th January 2013 if in DD/MM/YYYY,

    or

    1st July 2013 if in MM/DD/YYYY format.

So an alternative prompt could be

PROMPT: I will provide you with text that represents a QIF (Quicken Interchange Format) file. This file has rows that begin with the letter "D" which represents a date. Currently the format is in the USA format that has a format M/D'YY. Month, Day and Year. Can you change the format to be in the Australian date format of DD/MM/YYYY format? Example: turn D7/1'13 into D01/07/2013

Note that we cannot assist you with specific steps for how to do things in Excel such as installing add-ons or writing macros.
