Unpaid Invoice Report

Glad the software bug was promptly fixed, however, I have another issue that costs quite a lot of time. With this Unpaid Inv. Report, I am only interested in how much is owed per customer, so I select by customer, don't want date due or tax, and refresh, and the report it displays is not very well designed. The customers name is all squashed into the reference column with several lines taken up with the name.

Why not put the names near the beginning of the line? and spread across several columns?
I am finding I am having to download it in excel and massage it until it is ok. It takes like half an hour every time. Moving names across and spreading across columns, getting rid of all the empty rows. I have tried to copy format from one changed row to another, but quite often it tells me I can't. Getting rid of blank rows also seems to have to be done one at a time.

Can you work on making it easier?

thanks, Jean.

and why isn't the Totals word at the bottom, on the same line as the figures?

    Hi @Jean_10862158

It'd be great if you could post a screenshot of what you're referring to in this particular report so we can get a better idea of the situation.

Feel free to black out any sensitive info if you need.

First and last page of 4. This is with Due Date and Tax removed. If I don't remove them, then the PDF report doesn't fit on one page wide and it has all that spare space in it. I have been opening them in Excel and spending time on copying names across to the left, individually and deleting blank lines, then it usually fits on one page. There are issues with the spread of names taking up multiple columns in a row that stops one deleting the columns in Excel. So I have to undo all the wrap text and merges across columns to tidy it up. Very time consuming every month with several reports, this being the worst.

Thanks for that extra info @Jean_10862158

Can I just confirm that you're generating the report in landscape orientation as opposed to Portrait? Based on your attachment it looks as though it might be in portrait and I'd be keen to see if there's a difference if you switch to landscape?

Thanks Rav, that does get it down to 4 pages, but in landscape it prints quite large and has all that central space where only the repeat of the customers' name appears, which would look much better if the repeat of the name was placed over to the left, say at the Number column.
When I change it all in Excel, it comes out very well in Portrait mostly just 1 page. But it is a lot of work every time, made harder because of all the "wrap text" and "merge & centre" functions that are used.

I just wonder when it has the ability to remove columns, why would it not make a decent looking report from it. One that isn't landscape with type. In Excel you can go into custom scaling and make it show "fit all columns on one page".. Only trouble is it doesn't solve the repeat of the cust. name, because it then gets squashed up into a smaller column and then with wrap text, takes up more line space, which needs to be gotten rid of.

Great feedback @Jean_10862158, thank you 🙂

Can I ask a favour, could you please add another attachment of your report now that its generated in landscape orientation which shows the scenario you've outlined above?

    Cheers

This one is without deleting any columns in Landscatpe to PDF

This one is removing the due date & tax in landscape to PDF

This one is removing removing the due date & tax in Portrait to PDF

If I send the file to Excel without deleting those columns, you can't just delete the columns in Excel, a warning comes up saying it can't delete merged cells, because every cust. name is merged across every cell in the entire page.
If I take those columns out first, then to Excel, where the repeat of each cust. name is squashed and uses text wrap and takes up way too much row space. This repeat name is in column C, so I tried moving it to column B but it copies it in the same squashed appearance, so I go through merging it across columns B & C, separately for each cust. then deleting all the wasted space of rows, pretty much individually for each cust. I've been doing it this way for Customers for many months in the old book. Surely computerisation is supposed to make things easier.
