I have only been using Parallels/Windows 11 to run Reckon. All other apps including Microsoft Office, Excel etc are run under my MacBook environment thus not affected when I deleted Parallels/W11.

I was similarly anxious about this situation so called in an IT person well versed in setting up PCs/ Macs. It took us an hour. $200 well spent.

Btw been using V31 extensively this afternoon and it’s going as smoothly as Reckon Personal 2022 was for the last year.

    I hope this helps

    Hi @faigey,

I have attempted this approach without success. I completely deleted my Windows VM and Parallels, reinstalled both, and had the same problem.

neww11db can you elaborate what steps your IT person did or felt what the problem was?

I recently submitted a ticket to Parallels regarding this issue. They informed me that they have encountered the same problem and stated, ‘it appears the issue requires a code-level investigation, so we have escalated it to the Development team.’ While they didn’t provide a timeline, their response gives me some hope that a broader fix may be in progress.

    Hi nicki_j

    Thanks for this information.

I am going to soft pedal on this one.

Deleting parallels and windows will cause me many further problems eg the loss of all of my Microsoft apps . I will then have to purchase new versions of these apps to reinstall .

I hope you are correct ie parallels will investigate and perhaps a more definite/broader solution will develop.

In the mean time, I am using an old PC to continue being able to use Reckons Accounts Personal2022, which in turn means I am continuously switching between My iMac and the old PC - a very inefficient method of conducting business.

Please stay in touch and let me know if parallels come up with a fix.

    It will greatly be appreciated.

    Cheers

    dear Nicky_j,

My IT guy’s conclusion was Parallels was “remembering” some part of the old software and this was conflicting with the new download of v31.

Given we got it working we didn’t look further for the cause of the problem.

the other alternative you have is ditch Parallels and download a different VM. That gets around any “remembering” .

You can remove the Parallels application without removing the existing Parallels virtual machine itself.

Instead of deleting an existing Parallels virtual machine, create a fresh new one.

Run Intel-based virtual machines on Apple silicon Macs using Parallels Desktop x86 emulator

This allows you to have both the original virtual machine that has Windows 11, along with the older Reckon Accounts Personal 2022, other applications such as Microsoft Office, etc.

In the fresh new virtual machine, you can install the Reckon Accounts Personal V31 application.

If that is confirmed to be successful and running, you can either choose to also re-install onto that same virtual machine any other software you need such as Microsoft Office, etc.

Hi everyone. I just updated Parallels to version Version 20.2.0 (55872), which was previously unavailable to me, and I am now able to install and use v31. I hope this helps others as well.

    Hi @nicky_j

Can you please confirm whether you:

    a) Updated the Parallels application to that version 20.2.0 and kept using the same virtual machine that already contained an installed Reckon Accounts Personal 2022 along with other software, then uninstalled the Reckon Accounts Personal 2022 followed by an installation of the current Reckon Accounts Personal V31.

    OR

    b) Updated the Parallels application to that version 20.2.0 and created a brand-new virtual machine into which a fresh Windows 11 installation was done followed by installing the current Reckon Accounts Personal V31. (i.e. this new virtual machine never had any older versions of the Reckon Accounts Personal software)

    Hi nicki_j and datarec

I have similarly to nicki_j just updated from my existing Parallels version 20.1.3 to Parallels version 20.2.0

But I am too nervous to try installing Reckons Personal V31 until

    (1) answers to Datarec query/comment are clarified?

And also another query I have

    (2) after nicki_j had upgraded to Parallels version 20.2.0 did you install Reckons Personal V31 from

within (a) Windows 11 virtual machine or (b) directly from your Mac OS system?

Sorry to be so cautious . I have been trying to overcome this issue for the last two months and its become quite frustrating.

    Hi faigey,

I'm not familiar with the way Parallels does installations of software into the virtual machine.

For the virtualisation software that I've made use of in the past such as VMWare or Virtual Box, I would normally go into the virtual machine guest operating system (such as the Windows 11 virtual machine).

Then inside that guest operating system I would launch the installer for the software such as Reckon Accounts V31 to go about installing it.

During our successful operation yesterday we loaded v31 from within the guest operating system ie W11

Maybe that wasn’t clear in my earlier posts

    Hi everyone.

    IT WORKS

    Steps include

    (1) Upgrade to Parallels version 20.2.0 (55872) using the existing virtual machine

    (2) Downloaded Reckons Personal Plus V31 from within the guest operating system W11 to downloads folder. ie NOT via Apple OS on my Mac

    (3) Executed Reckons Personal Plus V31 from within the guest operating system W11 . ie NOT via Apple OS on my Mac

I have emphasised above not operating/executing via the OS on my Mac. I honestly do not know whether this is a factor. I do know that all my previous attempts had been via my Mac

Its been a long struggle and I just want to thank all those who have made suggestions.

    Hi @faigey,

I had a 'clean install Windows 11 Pro VM' and post most recent Parallels update, installed v31 directly from Windows (not macOS) with the VM configured to be as separate as possible from the Mac. I just had my Dropbox folder enable to be shared (which is where my Quicken data file is). I hope that helps.

The good news is I now have a properly installed copy of Reckon V31 running on my Mac using the steps listed above. Only problem is when I ask it to "open a file on my computer" it seems to go into daisyland & the spinning wheel.

    Hi Stephen_7060871

Apology if I am stating the obvious.

But make certain you have registered the Reckon V31 with Reckon . Input the installation key from Reckon which should be in your reckons account (if you have one) or alternatively purchase from Reckons.

I assume when you are attempting to open a file it is one of the data files developed from previous use of version 22.

    Open/Hit the file ********.QDF

    Hope this helps

It is important that the file location is correct and look at your file name max of 8 characters.

Always open the sample file to activate the program and to make sure that it works so as to eliminate any problems before opening your own data file.

I have been experiencing the same issue with the 'damaged files' message when installing Reckon Accounts v31 in Parallels. Updating Parallels to 20.2.0 didn't fix the problem for me. Nor did an array of other attempted "fixes". After much trial and error I found that I needed to update to the latest version of Windows 11 (24H2). I'm running the ARM version of Windows 11 (via Parallels on an M1 MacBook) …. unknown to me, it was stuck on version 22H2 and Windows Update wasn't giving me an option to update to version 24H2. It wasn't exactly obvious but I found a way to force the ARM version of Windows 11 to update to the new version by following the simple instructions in this link.

    https://forum.parallels.com/threads/update-windows-to-24h2-on-arm.364414/

After running the script Windows Update then asked me if I wanted to update to 24H2 (as it should have done by default). I then downloaded the update and had the Win11 24H2 running without a problem. Miraculously after that Reckon Accounts Personal v31 finally installed without corrupting the system!!

After all that; v31 (2025) for all intents and purposes is yet another identical annual "upgrade" since Intuit/Quicken abandoned it years ago.. but at least it's current.

I suspect this problem only affects people running Win11 (Arm) on Parallels with Apple Silicon. So only a small subset at hence no help from customer service. All other Windows 11 installations probably stay up to date without any intervention.

On a side note: If something like this happens it's very easy with Parallels Virtual Machines to use Time Machine to revert back to the last working copy of the VM by restoring the *.pvm file for the corrupted VM. When it first corrupted and it didn't let me even reinstall the old version of Reckon accounts I simply restored to the old *.pvm file and carried on back where I was. Not sure how Time Machine works but it seems to backup files somewhere even if (like me) you haven't executed a physical Time Machine backup to an external hard drive in a while. A copy of the *.pvm from the previous day was available to restore.

I think my problem is I am travellling overseas & having issues connecting my OneDrive to Parallels over VPN.
