Service / Database issues with Reckon Accounts v34 Premier Edition (2025)

I'm having a really strange experience with the latest v34. It seems to install a QuickbooksDB35 service which is overriding the QuickbooksDB34 and preventing database access entirely. I can't find ANY references to the existence of the DB35 service, and I've tried everything I can think of to make it work "out of the box" with DB35, to no avail.

I ended up having to permanently remove DB35 and run on DB34, but am having to revisit this as we had some issues with transactions going missing. I am concerned that the DB35 is part of an "emergency patch" which fixed some shortcomings in DB34, possibly involving data loss.

Here's what I noted down after reinstalling from scratch:

Did a complete uninstall of Reckon v34 (2025), restarted the Server, and reinstalled:

Initial settings on new install are:

QBCFMonitorService Disabled Not running

This brings up an error message when starting the Database Server Manager:
"Error starting monitor service"

QuickbooksDB34 Automatic Not running
QuickbooksDB35 Automatic Running

Multi-user hosting setup required
To allow multiple users to work on the company file at the same time, Reckon Accounts must
set up this computer to host multi-user access. (H101)
Do you want to use this computer to host multi-user access?

Warning Error: -6175, 0
Reckon Accounts is trying to access the company file but the database server is not
responding.

Firewall was OFF during this testing. Error occurs regardless of whether I open / set up Database Server Manager.

Checked the Help link for "Resolve error 6175"
This error indicates that Reckon Accounts could not contact the computer where the company file is located.
To do this task

  1. On the computer where the company file is stored, verify that the computer is powered on and is not in Standby or Hybernate mode.
  2. If you use firewall software, verify that the firewall settingsI are correct.
  3. Try to open the company file again.

Tried opening the client's other Company file and going to "Switch to multi-user mode" - same errors.
Tried going to File -> Utilities -> Host multi-user access - same errors

With DB35 Service running:
The database server is stopped.

After stopping DB35 and starting DB34:
The database server is running.

Checked Reckon Portal for any updated version of the install file - none found.
Extracted the latest installation file and searched for any DB34 / DB35 references - found nothing

Read Install Guide again - does not mention Server 2012 R2
"Multi-user mode is optimized for Windows Server 2016, Windows Server 2019, Windows Server 2022 operating systems, and for Windows 10 and Windows 11."

Checked Release Notes and "Installing, Updating and configuring Reckon Accounts In windows server (terminal server)"

https://help.reckon.com/article/8uviw04uim-kba-5611-installing-updating-and-configuring-reckon-accounts-in-windows-server-terminal-server#multi_user_access_and_firewall_configurations

Nothing refers to QuickbooksDB35 or anything related.

What's happening here exactly? Can you not open your file right now?

No, we can only open the file (I mean host multi-user access) if I force the QuickbooksDB34 service to run.

This leaves the database server in an unreliable state, as the DB35 can take over and cancel out the DB34 service.

I can't identify any possible way to get the system running with DB35, and I'm really puzzled as to why it's even bundled with the install in the first place. It doesn't seem to be compatible with its own Database Server utility, hence the "stopped" status when DB35 is running.
