#TipTuesday - Removing Previous Versions of Reckon Accounts Desktop on Windows
As the software updates every year, old versions of software can accumulate over time, taking up valuable disk space and sometimes causing conflicts with newer versions. In this #TipTuesday post, we’ll discuss how to remove previous versions of the Reckon software on Windows, ensuring your system runs smoothly and efficiently.
Why Remove Old Software Versions?
- Free Up Disk Space: Older versions can consume a significant amount of valuable space, which can be problematic on systems with limited storage.
- Improve System Performance: Multiple versions of the same software can lead to conflicts and slowdowns.
- Outdated Information: Old software may have outdated tax tables and rates, which can lead to incorrect data if used. The latest versions also address issues that some users may have reported.
How to Remove Previous Versions of Software on Windows
1. Use the Control Panel
The Control Panel is a straightforward way to uninstall software.
- Step 1: Press
Windows + Rto open the Run dialog box. Typecontroland hit Enter to open the Control Panel. - Step 2: Navigate to Programs > Programs and Features.
- Step 3: Scroll through the list of installed programs. Look for the software you want to remove.
- Step 4: Right-click on the program and select Uninstall. Follow the prompts to complete the uninstallation.
2. Utilize the Settings App
On Windows 10 and later, the Settings app offers a modern interface for managing software.
- Step 1: Open the Settings app by pressing
Windows + I. - Step 2: Click on Apps.
- Step 3: In the Installed Apps section, locate the software you wish to uninstall.
- Step 4: Click on the More options button (3 dots) and select Uninstall. Confirm your choice to proceed.
3. Use Third-Party Uninstaller Software
For a more thorough cleaning, consider using third-party uninstaller tools. These programs can remove stubborn software and clean up residual files effectively. Popular options include:
- Revo Uninstaller
- Bulk crap Uninstaller
These tools often offer additional features like batch uninstalling and the ability to remove registry entries associated with the software.
⚠️ Remember to backup!!!
Its important to note that while uninstalling old program files should not affect your current company QBW and QBB files, it is still a good idea to backup your files to an external location incase anything unexpected occurs.
Hopefully this #TipTuesday helps everyone keep their devices running smoother and frees up some disk space as well.

Re: Reckon Mate - payslips not appearing
Hi @Therese R
I just wanted to loop back to this one for a final update of sorts.
Reckon Mate has received an update today to version 2.0.63 which includes an enhancement that will allow payslips to appear regardless of the Automatic Payment setting being ticked or unticked in your Reckon Payroll settings. I'd highly recommend all your employees download this latest version as it contains a number of fixes and enhancements.
Just wanted to let you know in case you wanted switch the Automatic Payment setting off now that its resolved. If not you're more than welcome to keep it as-is.

Re: NEW PAY ITEM TO PAY RUN
Hello Alexis,
Thank you very much for your quick reply.
I will add the pay item to the employee's record prior to the pay run.
Re: Windows update ate my company file
Thanks Kris - My understanding is the Desktop is just another folder on the C drive, so it really shouldn't make a difference. Thanks for reminding me about backing up Mum 😅🤣 I'm a reformed man now. Running a USB external drive, & got my head around the cloud and syncing, so it shouldn't happen again. Although I dunno … that cloud is run by the same people that ate my files! Call me a conspiracy theorist, but the esteemed Mr Gates just won another $11/month cloud account out of it 🤔 Only about 3 months worth of data entry & reconciling, once I get my suppliers to resend their accounts. Sometimes I wonder what happened to snail mail, pencil and paper and one of those huge old Kalamazoo books 😅
Re: Windows update ate my company file
.QBW company files.
I have separate "Client" folders for each of my clients & inside each one, I have an "RA Backups" subfolder, where I save their .QBB backups 😊😊

Re: Windows update ate my company file
@Rob_9593369 I have "Reckon Files" folders on my C Drive that I keep mine in.
I create a new subfolder for each year & copy the files across before upgrading them each year (You wouldn't need to do that though, I only do it so I can access a client's older files, if required 😊):
I try to only ever save shortcuts on my Desktop (for any file) as an IT guy once told me if something happens, you're more likely to be able to recover files from a folder than from the Desktop itself (as you've now discovered 😢) … because the Desktop can't be easily backed-up by default 😬

Re: Windows update ate my company file
I always save the file in My Documents, or in a Reckon folder in My Documents. There used to be a default folder called Intuit in My Documents but I don’t know if that still happens.
As Gerry suggests I don’t actually store files on the desktop on a permanent basis but I do have shortcuts to say My Documents or any other folder that is often used.
My main mantra for over 30 years is backup, backup, backup. Weekly, monthly and always after doing a bank reconciliation. I once read years ago that when you have done enough work that you think you would not like to have to do again, it’s a good idea to backup, to an external drive

Glad I could be of assistance.

Re: Credit Notes
I’m not quite sure what you are asking but I believe you have got invoices and bills for the same person. If so you can receive the payments and bank to a clearing bank account, and then pay the bills from the same clearing account. If there is a balance to be paid or received it can then be transferred to or from the actual bank account

@Datarec thank you so much for your reply once again. Gold!
