Old inactive employee returning to us

Hi all, I had an employee who resigned and was paid out all entitlements but has now returned to us. Can I just reactivate his old profile and remove his end date or should I set up a complete new profile?

I would reinstate and make sure all leave entitlements are set to zero and bank details are still correct if exporting an aba file

Hi Kirsten, I would be careful if just reinstating the employee if they resigned and returned in the same financial year. This happened in our company and the ETP that I paid for the employee when they left disappeared from the STP figures at the end of financial year. If this is the same scenario for you, then I would set up a whole new record for the employee.

@JudyA There is a "Re-Hire" section specifically for the purpose of re-employing someone.  Creating a new record is not recommended as it causes issues with the ATO employee identification because they would have to be allocated a new Employee Number, but would still have the same TFN.

The issue you experienced is NOT related to re-hiring.  It is more likely to be the result of a configuration or technical problem with the STP submission.

@Kirsten If you right-click on the relevant employee name in your employee list (you may have to select to display "All Employees" or "Released Employees" from the View filter above the list if they've since been made inactive), then click on Hire Employee from the pop up menu, this will generate the wizard within the Employee Organiser which will allow you to retain the previous hire & termination dates AND will also add a secondary (new) "Hire" date:

(NB The 2nd snip is just from the Sample Company File - No Termination Date was entered as the employee wasn't "Terminated" correctly in the system!  If done correctly, the "Release Date" would also be populated & greyed out too)
