Original file is just over 4Gb, but holding stock data etc for over 10 years. Need to delete unnecessary data from past years. What is easiest way to do this? premier desktop.

Hi @Wayne Smith
What version of the software is your data file currently able to be opened with?
A 4GB file is very large.
How often have you been backing up the data file?
If you have not been backing up regularly, there may be a very large TLG file alongside your large QBW file.
These two large files will have an impact on the time it takes to backup (since both would be compressed together into a QBB file).

There is no 'easy' way to reduce the size of the file, though it is possible and would likely require you to work in conjunction with your accountant.
Here is a relevant support article.

Hi Wayne.
In the short term, deleting or renaming the TLG file will get you over your backup woes and allow you to upgrade. But with a file size of over 4Gb, a new file is the best way to go.
You will need to plan this around a BAS period, either the end of a month or quarter.
Iām happy to talk to you about options and costs. This is an area I specialise in, and the process takes between 12 and 20 hours depending on what is required. I can do this so you have zero days without access to Reckon.

Hi @Wayne
Going with Graham's method would likely be a good option for you.
