Weekly STP file not picked up by ATO

I am required to pay weekly PAYG to the ATO as per their guidelines. As a result, I do not submit wages on our BAS.

I have balanced everything in Reckon and submitted the STP End of Year file. However I now discover the Payroll Liabilites account has a balance from May for a Final Pay for one of our staff. The STP file has been submitted, and shows Success, but my tax office account has not picked up the file. The tax office account is zero. It seems the file didn't go through to the ATO. Any suggestions ?

thanks, Cheryl

if you have finalised the EOFY STP, all the details would have gone through as the STP lodgements send YTD figures not each individual week

    Thanks Kris.

Yes, the totals are correct in the STP file, so all employees would be correct. It still leaves a payment in our payroll liabilities and a zero balance with the ATO, as they didn't receive the individual file, which is where the PAYG shows for payment.

The Payroll Totals align with the STP file.

@crankins I'm wondering if you're confusing STP submission with the actual payment of liabilities 🤔

There's currently no requirement to pay PAYG weekly (although payday processing is under development for implementation in the next few years). At the moment, the standard for payment is quarterly or - if annual PAYG is over 25K - monthly.

STP however, is required to be submitted each pay run (so if your payroll is weekly, then this would be weekly)

STP is simply a method of reporting payroll data though, it is not related to making the actual payment(s)

    Thanks Shaz

The ATO require weekly payments for any business exceeding 1M in PAYG over the FY. The amount shown in our ATO account as owing, comes from the STP file we submit for weekly payroll. Payment is required same day as submitting the STP.

I will call the ATO and try to work out why this one payment didn't go through to our ATO account.

    I appreciate your feedback.

    Ah … I didn't realise you're a large withholder 👍️

The reporting via STP is still separate from making the actual liability payment though so yes, if you've also made the PAYG payment to them, I would contact the ATO to find out why that's not showing as if your Finalise Year STP balances with your payroll figures for the year, both the liability & payment should be reflected in that.
