Customer Feedback Focus for Reckon One
Hi Everyone! 👋
After a big focus on getting Reckon Payroll STP2 compliant, we’re back and focusing on our accounting features, in Reckon One. We’ve been going through all of our customer feedback and ideas, and prioritising our roadmap according to what’s important to You.
There are a number of ways that we’ve been understanding what’s important to you - looking through posts in Community, talking with Support and understanding what’s being enquired about, reading through suggestions on our Ideas Portal, and reading through comments when we release surveys and conduct research. We prioritise feedback based on number of votes, enquiries or comments; and severity - so do vote on ideas that resonate with you, and leave us feedback when we send out surveys!
The below list details only a small part of what’s to come, as we focus on making it easier to raise and manage invoices; introduce the start of our redesign of Reckon One to make it friendlier to use; and keep improving Payroll. We’re so excited about what’s to come, we couldn’t wait to spill the beans! With most of the list below already available for you to use in Reckon One, look out for some big changes coming over the next few months.
🤩 #1 Giving Reckon One a Facelift
Problem encountered: We’ve heard through our product surveys that Reckon One is clunky to use, it doesn’t look modern, and hasn’t had a facelift in a number of years.
How this was solved: Excitingly, we’re starting to roll-out our new design system into Reckon One, starting with the navigation on the left-hand side, as well as at the top of the screen. Those who have used Reckon Payroll will recognise this design - it’s lighter in colour (and cleaner) and therefore less distracting as you are navigating about and doing your tasks in Reckon One. Due to less clutter on the screen, and abiding to WCAG principles, it’s more accessible. It’s also more modern and user friendly, and aligns with our Reckon colours. As you’re working in Reckon One, you will be able to collapse the menu to the left to give you more space. You can then either expand the menu again to navigate to the next task, or hover over the menu to use a quick menu to jump to where you need to go. There’s no change to the naming of the menu items, or where to find anything. You’ll start to see this new design system being rolled out slowly in Reckon One, and can’t wait to provide you the benefits this new design brings.
Will be available on: All Reckon One plans
Timing: We’ll be slowly rolling out this big change over November & December. We currently have a pilot group of customers testing this with us and sending us feedback.
🥳 #2 Bringing Reckon Payroll back into Reckon One
Problem encountered: Reckon Payroll was built as a separate product to Reckon One, meaning you had to use the product switcher to switch between products. There was also a separate log in page just for Payroll. Switching between products was a clunky experience, especially when there were some payroll features still in Reckon One, like the reports.
How this was solved: We're about to pull Reckon Payroll back into Reckon One, so you won’t have to leave Reckon One to process your pay runs. You'll be able to simply expand the ‘Payroll’ menu item in the Reckon One navigation to view the Payroll related tasks - there’ll be no more switching between products! We'll also be removing the specific Payroll header navigation, so Reckon One will work seamlessly across the accounting AND payroll features. This was designed so you could complete all your Reckon One tasks in the one place. We’ve also consolidated our sign in pages, so there’s one sign in for Reckon One, which is at portal.reckon.com
Will be available on: All Payroll plans
Timing: We’ll be slowly rolling out this big change over November & December. We currently have a pilot group of customers testing this with us and sending us feedback.

📚 #3 Creating a Reckon One book
Problem encountered: Setting up a new book isn’t an easy task, particularly if you’re new to Reckon One, new to bookkeeping, or don’t add books frequently. Previously, we relied on our customers knowing their way around the book settings, to set things up correctly.
How this was solved: Any important, and mandatory information required to set up your book is now in the onboarding flow once you add another Reckon One book (or create your first book). There’s now no need to visit multiple places to set up your book. This streamlines onboarding for both the accounting and payroll plans, and sets you up in the best position to get started with the tasks you need to complete, reducing your set up time.

📝 #4 Multi-line description field on invoices
Problem encountered: Any text entered into the description field on an invoice formatted as one big block of text, regardless of if you added line breaks.
How this was solved: Any line breaks you enter into this field will now show as intended on the invoice, making it clearer for the recipient to understand the detail.
Available on: Accounting Plus & Premium plans

📧 #5 Advising you of bounced-back emails
Problem encountered: Have you ever sent an email via Reckon One - an invoice, or payslip - and wondered if the addressee has received your email? There was no status indicating if an email had bounced back.
How this was solved: You’ll now receive an email in your inbox (sent to your ‘reply-to email’ listed in your book settings), advising you if an email has bounced back. This then gives you the opportunity to correct the email address and resend the email.
Available on: Accounting Plus & Premium plans, and all Payroll plans

🔐 #6 Security upgrade to the emails you send out via Reckon One
Problem encountered: Invoices and statements sent by email from Reckon One didn’t have security features, so you couldn't prevent someone from viewing the attachment. This could be an issue if an attachment was incorrectly sent out, or sent to the wrong email address.
How this was solved: You can now assign a password to your invoices and customer statements (both the ‘Balance forward’ and ‘Open items’ statements), to provide security to what you are sending out.
Available on: Accounting Plus & Premium plans

👉 #7 Payroll: Easily moving to the next employee when working on a pay run
Problem encountered: When in focus mode editing the pay run details for an employee, to move to editing the details of another employee, you had to close the detail view, and select the next employee to open their detail view. This resulted in opening and closing details repeatedly if you had to edit the details of multiple employees.
How this was solved: We’ve added in a ‘Next’ button when you are in the details pane for editing the details of employees in the pay run, enabling you to move to the next employee in the list. The order will respect the ‘sort’ ordering you have applied to the pay run employee table, whether it be A-Z, Z-A, or by employee number.
Available on: All Payroll plans
💸 #8 Payroll: Streamlining superannuation payments
Problem encountered: When using SuperStream in Payroll, you had only one option for a provider and had to submit your super batch outside of Reckon Payroll in the provider's platform.
How this was solved: Beam, a ‘SuperStream’ provider, has been integrated into Payroll, to help you automate the payment of superannuation obligations with ease, with calculations on contributions made directly from Reckon Payroll. Beam validates contribution data before submissions to reduce errors in lodgment and provides real-time notifications throughout the process.

👀 #9 Payroll: Viewing and printing FBT values on the EOFY report
Problem encountered: In Payroll, to view the FBT balance for employees, you had to open each employee’s profile to view the detail.
How this was solved: Opening the EOFY report in Payroll, you can easily see the FBT balance for all employees, and download this report.

🚀 #10 Payroll: Advisors able to submit pay runs to the ATO on behalf of their clients, without leaving Payroll
Problem encountered: When we launched the STP2 compliant Payroll to existing plan holders in 2023, advisors lost the ability to submit pay runs and EOFY to the ATO within Payroll - having to complete the process in GovConnect, instead.
How this was solved: A new ‘Tax Agent Settings’ section was added in Payroll, enabling pay runs and EOFY submissions to be sent as an agent of the business.
Available on: All Payroll plans for Australia

🎉 #11 Payroll: Filtering by pay run status
Problem encountered: When wanting to work on pay runs of a particular status - e.g. those in draft, or not yet marked as paid - you had to scan the pay run list to find the statuses you needed.
How this was solved: We’ve added a filter at the top of the pay runs table, enabling you to filter out statuses you don’t want to see, and able to quickly find the ones you do.
