I have recently installed Pro 11-12 on my new laptop running windows 8.1 and received, like others, the error code 20 when trying to email or print.
I have followed the guidelines given to ensure the program is being run in compatibility mode - right clicking the icon, selecting properties, selecting the compatibility tab at the top of the window that appears and then selecting Windows XP service pack 3 in the drop down box beneath the “Run this program in compatibility mode” checkbox. NOW when i click on the "email" tab it jams the program and I have to shut down and restart. Now not sure whether to undo this compatability process - but then I will return to the same problem anyway (ie no ability to email invoices or print)
I have looked at the previous posts re these issues and understand i am also supposed to try assigning PDF converter to its own port but cant find instructions on how to do this for Windows 8.1 (the link on the community is for earlier versions).
Help ....

    Thanks Sally .. I was leaving it until I had done all entries and reconciled for the BAS quarter - and just avoiding selecting the email tab - as that sends the program into a frozen mode, but I just completed a reconciliation and when I clicked "reconcile"  after getting everything in order, it froze again ... will look at your suggestion now, but thought I would pass on my latest experience in case it helps marry up with whatever anyone thinks the problem is (I guess reconciling means the info is converted into a pdf or something ??) btw, it prints fine to my printer !?

    In the initial step (shown below), I cant find a folder called "Program Data" but i can find one called "Program Files (x86) which has an Intuit folder within.

    But in there I cannot find either of the files (QBPRINT or WPR.INI_ amthough there is a WPR file ... but it has no .INI extension ???

    1. Delete the QuickBooks printer files – QBprint.qbp and wpr.ini:

    b.    Windows 8, 7 & Vista:

    C:\Program Data\Intuit\QuickBooks 2012-13\ and delete QBPRINT.QBP and WPR.INI;

    If you cannot see C:\Program Data then it is hidden.  To unhide it click on Organize > Folder and Search Options > View > and in the Advanced Settings box, under Hidden files and folders, click on the radio button Show hidden files, folders and drives.

    Here I have found a (hopefully) successful way to disable the splWOW64 ... it works for 8.1 but the process in the original kbreckon link doesnt :
