You can install it in a virtual machine such as
Windows XP Mode using VirtualBox, VMware, Parallels Desktop, etc
Then you can have:
a) two copies of the same virtual machine, one on the desktop and one on the laptop.
b) concurrent multiple running instances of the same version of the program on one computer each in its own isolated virtual machine
c) an older version of the program running simultaneously alongside a current version on the same computer each in its own isolated virtual machine
