payments not showing on profit and loss

When I apply part payments to invoices they do not show up on the Profit and loss as a sale/income .

If I record the payment as a sales receipt they do but then appear twice in the rgister of the bank account: one as the allocation against the invoice and the other as a sales receipt

So, I would like to record the payment against the invoice and then have it show up on the P and L. If I then do a sales receipt how do I stop the duplicate in the account register please?
