Hi, Do i need to process and lodge Single Touch Payroll for a month where there have been no pays? I have received conflicting advice.

(I cannot work out how to prepare a nil pay run to enable processing the nil STP)

    Hi Maria

If there is no pay run data to report to the ATO then you don't need to create/send any submissions.

STP is reported on a YTD basis only and creating a nil balance STP report will bring your YTD balances back to zero which you probably don't want/need.

It’s not possible to run a nil pay run - Some suggest using a 0.00001c Payroll Item amount but not sure I see the point.

Is there a specific reason why you want to do this ?

Thanks Shaz, the only reason is to satisfy ATO lodging requirements - other software providers recommend lodging a nil STP report when there is a nil pay period.

We lodge IAS monthly so was wanting to make sure lodgement requirements for STP were up to date.

STP is required when processing a pay run - If no pay run occurs, there’s nothing to submit so no submission is necessary!

STP updates YTD figures each submission so there will be no change to your payroll YTD balances.

How do I delete a payrun processed in error and submitted to the ATO? It does not appear that a payrun cand be edited to show nil payment.

    Hi @SusanSmith

That’s correct … once submitted, it can’t be deleted. It can only be deleted after initial Upload (in Draft status)

However, STP submissions just update YTD balances - NOT the specific pay run’s figures - so if you’ve since corrected something within your Hosted payroll, any subsequent submissions will update/correct this ☺️
