Payroll entry - unsure of some of the employment info fields

Can you tell me what the following fields in employment information relate to? I have tried to find information all over the place including your help area and the one in Reckon Hosted to no avail.

  1. "Reference no." - what do we put in this field? I've never used that field so unsure what to enter there
  2. "Agreement" - what does this relate to and do you always have to enter details here?
  3. "Classification" - what does this relate to and do you always have to enter details here?

It's frustrating when you have a very simple Payroll employee and there are all these extra fields which may not be relevant but yet "stop you in your tracks" as you're unsure what to include.

I don't use Reference No or Agreement, but we do use the Classification for our employees that are paid under an EBA and have a specific rate that is linked to their trade. I assume in the Agreement spot, I could put the EBA details, but I never have. It won't matter if you leave these fields empty if they hold no relevance to your payroll.

These are information-only fields & not compulsory - They can be used for further/additional categorising (eg Award info as JudyA mentions) & reporting ☺️

Thanks so much to everyone who responded. I was not really concerned but with this wonderful new Phase 2 STP coming up I was thinking they might be relevant when that fully comes into play. I am aware that Reckon is still working on getting the payroll modules ready for this correct?

Yes, Reckon has an extension (like the majority of accounting software providers) - which extends to users - til the 31st Dec 2022. I believe there are 1 or 2 providers who are ready now but not the majority ☺️

Can anyone confirm if these additional fields will come into play with new Phase 2 STP and is it true that, from what I read, that if you don't fill in all the fields (whether relevant or not) the STP lodgement will come back with an error. Just reading up to get prepared and have attended a few seminars.

We don’t know the specifics for Reckon Accounts yet however it’s unlikely those particular fields will be relevant as it’s the Payroll Items that are reported for STP ☺️

    Hi Judy,

We'll have a full breakdown of everything you need to know about getting ready for Single Touch Payroll phase 2 and its requirements a little later in the year as we work through building out the functionality for each of our various payroll software. Stay tuned.
