I have a problem where my computer running Windows has changed all the accounts stored in File Explorer have changed from Reckon to Adobe, so that when I Backup onto a usb key the Reckon file has converted to read in Adobe. I need to change it back to Reckon so that my accountant can open it up.

It’s because you have inadvertently linked that file extension to adobe. I think It’s just the icon, it should still restore the normal way. Does the file still end in qbb? Are you sending the accountant the qbb file or the qbw file?

Have you tried restoring the file the normal way and select it even though it has a different icon?

On the USB I cannot see the name of the file with ****.?? Whether it is a qbb or qbw file. When I go to restore backup file on the laptop, it only gives me the usb that end in rkn on all, or Restore Backup of which it then says local backup or reckon backup. So if I choose local backup with ok, then it gives me the file on the usb key which it says is a RKN File and when I choose it gives me the options in the folders. If I pick Quicken and press it, it then gives me BACKUP or VALIDATE. Haven’t touched either yet.

Well I solved my problem and hopefully my accountant will get the copy he can open. And I learned something along the way in transferring. Much to my hesitations. But it’s done.
