Modifying customer information using exporting and importing

I have a customer using premier 2014. They have over 1000 customers and they are set up using the job code as the customer name. I have the customers actual name stored in the "Company" field. I want to export the customer list to excel and copy the "company" field into the "Customer" to rename the customer, then import the modified customer list back into the datafile and find that the customers are now all renamed from the 'job number' to their actual number. When I did this it created new customers.
Can you modify the customer name through the import process?

Hi Kirk,
Welcome to Reckon Community!
Unfortunately, this is not possible. As you have discovered, modifying the name from the exported file of the Customer will be considered and entered as a new entry/customer when imported back. This is due to the reason that the export file has no way to identify the old name with the new as a replacement.
The only effective way is to do so from Reckon Accounts itself I'm afraid.
Thank you.
Kind Regards,
