Missing company data file in Accounts plus 2019 Release R2?

I am running desktop Accounts Plus 2019 Release 2 which I had upgraded for new tax tables etc successfully. I had no problems for several weeks. I had not accessed the software for several weeks and to my horror when I opened it yesterday it asked me to open the company file. Several suggested files were out of date and a search of the C Drive failed to locate the "current" file (most recent April 2019 modified). I am at a complete loss as to how the file could all of a sudden just disappear? To make things worse the hard drive on which I had a back up can no longer be accessed due to a recent format. Is there any way that I may be able to check the location or retrieve the correct data file or am I looking at having to update from April 2019 onwards, working from bank statements? I had produced PAYG certificates and run IAS/BAS reports since April on the software. HELP! (Only thing I can think of is if data file was also being saved on external drive but I am sure I would not have done this). Should have taken up the offer to move to Hosted after all!

Hi Tim,
Installation of a newer version of the software will not make any company data files disappear.
Try the following support articles to see if the steps differ to how you tried to find your files.

Was not suggesting the update caused this as I had been using software post update for sometime. Just after a period of non use the company data file just seems to have disappeared.
I rang Tech support and went through these suggestions with no success. I simply don't see how I was accessing it one minute and suddenly it is gone?????0 -
Hi Tim,
Do you know which specific hard disk drive and folder the current file was located?
How many QBW files can you locate on your computer or any of your shared network folders?
How many of them have the same name?
The only way a file can no longer be found would be if it has been renamed or deleted.

As far as I know it was on the C Drive and not shared over a network. I now have multiple files on my C Drive in my attempts to find and open the "latest" file. All are the same and are only updated to end March 2019.
I have basically resigned myself to having to rebuild the company file up to date. Fortunately the business was running down its operations around March 2019 so there should not be too many transactions to enter! I just don't know how the file could have been deleted. I have even run data recovery software on the C Drive and Removable Drive but nothing was found. Bizarre!
Thanks for your help anyway.0 -
Hi Tim,
Please ensure that you take note of the file locations for the data file that you will now be updating and to create backups at a suitable interval as needed.
For the existing files that are older or that may be in multiple separate locations, consider moving them all to a single known folder location to minimise any confusion later, alternatively rename them with an added date.

In a further development I have now seemingly recovered both QBB and QBW files from the hard drive which had been previously formatted and deleted everything. The software Remo Recovery has saved these files in folders in my desk top. My problem now is that these are all individual files so how do I consolidate them or attempt to open them in Reckon Accounts? I have attached screen shots which show the individual folders for QBW and QBB, along with a screen shot showing a sample of the individual files. File numbers in each folder are shown as you can see. If anybody can assist with reinstatement it would be greatly appreciated.0

Hi Tim,
The file sizes are too small to be valid QBW files.
The smallest file which is blank new empty data file is at least 8.6 MB.

The QBB folder and its many files total approx 17gb as shown in pic and show 6999 individual files?0

Hi Tim,
We cannot do anything with the 6,999 files even if the sum total of the folder size is 17GB.
Look at the size of your March 2019 data file that you are still able to open.
How big is it?
Now see if you can find any QBW file that is as large or larger among those that the Remo Recovery software that you used has found.
Are there any?

Sadly no other file. Undertaking a laborious rebuild for the last 12 months.
Just received the 2020 update which I will put on hold until data file is "current".

Hi Tim,
As you continue with your data re-entry, please ensure that you backup at regular intervals. If you have a cloud storage account such as Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive, DropBox, etc, consider keeping a copy of your data file backup off-site also.
